I have a DPMS LR308 with 24" fluted BB...the only time I use it to hunt is when I am in SC sitting in a big box stand on the power lines. Other than that it is too heavy to carry around or even maintain in a standard tree stand.

If dead set on a .308 16" barrel. But at least check out 68forums.com to read up on the 6.8spc for shooting hogs! Deer! I love the round. You can have a very light hard hitting AR.

I have a LR-308 20" that is basically a copy of a SASS minus the PRS stock.

I have had it about four years and have run it in three sniper schools. Has always ran great. Granted it is a little bit heavy, but it balances fine and I ran it out to 1000 yds just fine.

Last sniper school I went to was a bunch of running and gunning and it held up fine.
