Then go with the SOCOM. The advantages of the Blackout are lost on you.

With the 458 there is a slight mod to the regular 5.56 mags, removal of just a bit of material on the front lip of the mag. Even doing that mod one can still use the mags for 5.56 loads. You do need a special bolt. Quite of few company's load for the 458, but you are not ever going to really suppress it and it kicks like a 20/12g shotgun +/-. The 458 ammo isn't cheap by any means. The 458 doesn't shoot rifle stlye bullet, its a 45 based round so...that said they do have a whole host of lead and copper for them and it will kill anything on this continent though you may be tossing them like a 45-50 in a big arch. Those uppers are not light in weight by any means as the barrels are pretty darn thick.

My Noveske lower is crying out for completion.

In .458 SOCOM or .300 BKT? I've got one of the rare Tromix lowers marked .458 SOCOM. Never used it.

Just ordered the last parts for my upper, woot.

I found it interesting that AAC is moving from a 1/8 to a 1/7 twist in their 300blk barrels. Rsilvers said they made the change for more stability with subsonic ammo, and that most companies are changing to 1/7.

Thought some of you might like to know that.

Only in the BIG subsonic. 220 is fine. I think it was 237 that was occasionally unstable.

So if all you wanted to do was go supersonic and had zero intentions for the subsonic game, what would be the desired twist 1/10? Oh in a 16" pipe if that is a concern.

I'm going to stay with my 1:8 unless I find later on that the faster twist is more beneficial. Again like wakkoss wrote, it appears the stability in the larger grain subsonics are having the problems.

Although my 300BLK has not been able to cycle the subsonics, when I fire one shot at a time, stability of the round is not a problem.

Jon may be able to offer more information, but the barrels I've seen were only available in 1:8 or 1:7 twist, so go with either.

I think most being produced in 2012+ are 1/7 but several are still 1/8. I think it will work out like AR barrels in 5.56. The 1/8 is still very popular even though 1/7 is the "standard". Maybe your 1/8 won't shoot 80gr bullets, but those won't load in a magazine anyway. Similarly with 300BLK the 1/8 won't shoot 240gr subs, but those don't load in AR mags (and are not available) so who cares. I sure don't. I can say my Noveske 1/8 has a match grade twist [smilie=011.gif]
